Haiku, can you?
Today I have decided to write some haiku for you. Yes, this is written especially for you! You’re welcome. Haiku is a beautiful and complex form of artistic expression. The intention with this form of poetry is to express a vivid word picture highlighting a juxtaposition of elements using 17 syllables. I will be writing whatever comes to my mind. Yellow The colour of joy A banana that is ripe Snow covered in pee Water Floating in the sky Falling over a cliffside Filling a toilet Falling Raindrops from above Hail hitting me on the head Darn, another list Blood…

A Love Note
Every time I think of you, my heart skips a beat. My mouth waters and I long to press you to my lips. Your cheesiness and your orange colour always bring a smile to my face! I can’t wait until we meet again, macaroni and cheese. M3

Shampoo Day
It happened again. I got carried away and didn’t write a new post until the last minute. I just finished watching Rogue One with Ryan and he suggested that I write about a mundane activity from my everyday life. But that’s kinda boring. So I’m going to write about something that happens less frequently than every day. Get ready for Shampoo Day! Shampoo day is a rare phenomenon that occurs every four to seven days. But what is it exactly? It’s the day that I treat my hair to a deep cleansing and conditioning. Because of my sensitive scalp, I have to be careful…

Barely Made It!
I’m cutting it close with this post! I’ve been working on writing up a bunch of stuff for The Aux Cable (my podcast with Ryan Matlock), and I got carried away. Oh well! Here comes my post of the day. 🙂 Let’s just do an update, eh? My body has been feeling horrible lately, and it’s likely mostly due to my Crohn’s. But today was a really good day! The sun was shining brightly and my tummy wasn’t hurting. What more could I ask for? I started with an early morning conference call (while still in bed) that went very…

The Canada 150 Play List
On July 1st, 2017, Canada will be celebrating 150 years since confederation and Canadian history in general. Because of this, all of 2017 is being filled with Canada 150 activities, including free admission to Canada’s national parks, many special events, projects, and general celebration! ParticipACTION, a national organization promoting physical activity in Canada, is getting in on the action by challenging Canadians to complete activities from their Canada 150 Play List. Last fall, they asked Canadians what activities and sports they enjoyed and used the feedback to create this list. People can now complete those activities as individuals or as part of a…

Daily Blogging Project
I want to blog more regularly. It’s actually one of my goals for 2017. So, I’ve decided that I’m going to write a blog post every day! I’ve followed a few daily blogs in the past, which has given me an idea of what it’s like. Sure, I’ve never actually written a blog post every day, but I’ve seen what other people can do with it. That counts for something, eh? Luckily for me, some daily blog writers have shared tips for running a daily blog operation. The tip that stood out to me is giving up on the idea of “perfectionism”. (Kelli…

Cue 2017
Just like that, December 2016 has come to an end. What a crazy and amazing month and a completely unexpected year! I don’t mean that I wasn’t expecting 2016, silly. I mean that what happened over these past twelve months was not expected. Some of it was totally planned. Some things were planned but turned into something else or happened differently (usually better) than intended. Other things came up to me and smacked me in the face. But it was all great. 😌 I’ve already posted about many of my 2016 highlights; BlimeyCon, Paddlefest, family trips, etc. But what I…

Wrapping Up November
Hello again! Would you look at that? November is almost over; only two days left now. CRAZY!! Welp, I’m still in Keremeos enjoying the lack of snow and sub-zero temperatures! It’s been quite nice, though we may be getting a bunch of the white stuff soon. And that’s alright with me as I’m kind of missing snow. I could go up into the mountains to play around, make snow angels, and stuff. Maybe later this week! Speaking of this week, my sister’s birthday is on Wednesday. I will be surprising her with a visit! I’m really looking forward to that! Other…

What’s Up?
This week has been fairly crazy. For the first couple of days, I woke up in Clarkston, Washington. I was visiting some friends for the weekend and having a wonderful time! Although, I was a bit short on sleep. So we slept in a bit. But once we were up, we got straight to doing stuff and making the most of what little time we had together. Once I got back home, I recorded a new episode of The Aux Cable with Ryan, which was to be released the following day. On that Wednesday, after sleeping in a tad, I…

So…
Hah! You’ve done good with this blog, Matthew. Let’s keep it going! This has been one crazy summer! …and spring, since the last time I posted here was in the winter. *shudders* So here’s just a quick overview of the shenanigans I’ve been up to! I’ll post more details in the coming weeks along with pictures. Trips to Vancouver I joined my family for a handful of trips down to Vancouver over the spring. During one of those trips, we got to attend my cousin’s graduation weekend in Keremeos! We also successfully completed an exit room in Vancouver with all of…

A new week!
So last week went fairly well. Especially goal-wise! Huzzah and Wooton!! And now for my report card on how I did this past week. I’ll try to not be too hard on myself (after all, these are goals to push myself forward), but still make an honest assessment. Last week’s ‘getting back on track’ goals. 1. No technology after 10:00 pm – B- I did not too bad… at first. On the weekend I slid a little bit, but that was partially due to not feeling great and having a hard time sleeping. But I feel great with how I did and especially with…

Getting back on track
I used to set goals for myself on a weekly basis, especially during and immediately after my big illness. I keep trying to get back to those habits and systems that helped me to feel healthy and be productive, but it’s tough. For the past several weeks, I’ve been following Kelli Taylor’s blog (Kelli from Blimey Cow). Each Monday she posts a new set of goals for the week along with a follow-up report card from the previous week’s goals. Since I’ve been having such a hard time sticking to my systems and such, I’m gonna borrow this idea for myself. (Hope that’s okay,…

Little adventure
I like adventure. I especially like adventure in the great out-of-doors! Like going on a big river trip or camping through BC. But sadly, adventure like that doesn’t happen every day. (For the most part…) To deal with the lack of “big adventure” in my everyday, I look for “little adventure”; which is very similar to big adventure, but involves a lot more imagination. At least the way that I do it. It’s taking the small and insignificant, filtering it through a weird algorithm that doesn’t make sense, and making it big and the most vital thing in human history. I find that…

Kayaking in February
Huzzah! Today we get to bring the kayaks into the pool again for some mid-winter paddling! I’m so stoked!

The Cowmoonity Fancast
https://facebook.com/cowmoonityfancast I mentioned this the other day, but I’m gonna share it again! This project was started with my friends on a group chat that we are a part of. On Thursday, we officially launched it and are very excited about the next episode!

Creatively energized!
This past week, we, the patrons of Blimey Cow, released the first episode of our new podcast, The Cowmoonity Fancast. It’s been over a month in the making and I’m really quite pleased with how it turned out! Especially the music! Which is kinda what this post is about. In the past few weeks I’ve been having this weird creative dry spell, while simultaneously being filled with inspiration and creative juice. I have ideas and “aha” moments, but no energy with which to express or actually make these things happen. But this week, when I was working to finish recording the music,…

Okay, it’s been long enough…
I keep thinking about this blog. Especially recently. I keep wishing that I could post regularly on it. And then I realize that I can. I just have to follow some simple advice from our great friend Shia LaBeouf. 😉 For me, this past year has been about jumping in and just doing whatever. If I really want something, I have to start making decisions to work towards that thing. Don’t worry to much about getting it right the first time, just do it! And so I start. Here is the first step towards my lofty blogging goals!

Oh yeah… I have a blog!
So I completely forgot that I had this blog until this week. I coulda and shoulda been writing in it all summer. In fact, thinking about it, I think I started to do that a couple times but ended up not actually posting. Well, I’m here now! And that counts for something… Right? Anyway, it’s been quite the year. I could tell you more about it, but I might just leave that for later. In fact, that’s just what I’m gonna do. See ya!

Hello world!
Greetings! If you are reading this, then you probably already know me. If not, then we can just pretend that you do. (I won’t tell anyone otherwise. 😉 ) Whatever the case may be, welcome to my blog! Glad you could stop by! This is the first real blog that I have started. I plan to use it to record my adventures away from home. Get it? That’s why I call it “Flying the Coop”. Although I will probably include some of my adventures around my home as well, but that’s not really the point. Anyway, I’m not sure how…
